He joins Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Mitchell Starc and Brett Lee among Australia’s 600-plus international wicket-takers. The achievement puts Lyon in an exclusive Australian club featuring some of the country’s greatest-ever bowlers.
He has claimed 29 wickets in 29 ODIs and one wicket in two T20Is. Across his international career, Lyon now has 24 five-wicket hauls and five 10-wicket match hauls, with his best innings figures being 8/50. Shoriful Islam produced a superb spell for Bangladesh, claiming a career-best seven wickets in the match, while Australia were dismissed for 210. Starc struck twice among the first three wickets, while Nathan Lyon removed captain Shanto after a brief 31-run resistance. Mushfiqur Rahim fought hard with an unbeaten 29, but Bangladesh were bowled out for 95. The emphatic victory levelled the two-match series 1-1 after Bangladesh had secured a historic nine-wicket win in Darwin in the opening Test.
Lyon’s contribution has extended beyond the longest format, although his numbers in white-ball cricket are considerably smaller. Australia did not have it easy with the bat on a testing Mackay surface. Bangladesh began their second innings with another collapse.
