India women’s hockey team goalkeeper Savita Punia believes the team’s recent FIH Nations Cup triumph has given them the confidence to compete with the world’s best at the upcoming World Cup.
Because all the top teams were there, “Winning the FIH Nations Cup was a big achievement. Because every team at the World Cup will be a tough opponent, savita, however, knows that India will have to stay focused. India won the Nations Cup after beating a strong field.
Savita said the Nations Cup victory was important for the team, especially after a long wait for a major international gold. It was a competitive tournament, and coming out on top gave us a huge boost and winning a gold medal after a long time has lifted the team’s morale and belief,” Savita told JioStar. Every team in the World Cup is strong, and there are no easy matches,” she said.
Savita feels the title has lifted the team’s morale and belief ahead of the biggest tournament. “We are going into the Women’s Hockey World Cup with a lot of confidence, but our main focus is on our own game. “To be part of a third consecutive World Cup is a huge achievement. I have worked extremely hard to get here, and in every edition, I have tried to give my best for the team. With two World Cups already behind her, Savita wants to use her experience to help the team handle pressure during the tournament.
