Formula 1: Lando Norris cruises to Mexico City GP victory, takes championship lead from Piastri

Lando Norris produced a near-perfect performance at the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix, cruising to victory and seizing the championship lead from McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri with just four races remaining in the 2025 season, IANS reported. The Briton controlled the race from start to finish, eventually crossing the line a massive 30 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. The victory marks Norris’s sixth of the season and his first since Hungary Having trailed Piastri by 34 points after the Dutch Grand Prix, Norris now leads the championship by a single point, with Verstappen sitting 35 points behind in third. Leclerc’s podium helped Ferrari edge ahead of Mercedes with 356 points, just one clear of their rivals, while Red Bull sits nine points further back. The 2025 Formula 1 season continues with the Brazilian Grand Prix at São Paulo’s Interlagos Circuit on November 9.

Starting from pole position after a stellar qualifying session, Norris made no mistakes off the line and quickly built a commanding gap to the rest of the field. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen completed the podium, narrowly missing out on second place after a late Virtual Safety Car neutralised any chance of a final-lap overtake. Mercedes had a frustrating outing, with Kimi Antonelli and George Russell finishing sixth and seventh respectively. Russell voiced his frustration over team radio, believing he could have challenged Bearman if given clean air. Lewis Hamilton followed in eighth after an early penalty for gaining an advantage off track derailed his podium hopes. Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto rounded out the top ten. the battle for second remains close While McLaren has already sealed the Constructors’ Championship.
