Mercedes driver George Russell stormed to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, fending off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris to claim his second win of the 2025 Formula One season. The win carried extra meaning for the Briton, who had famously crashed out of podium contention on the final lap at Marina Bay in 2023. The Australian eventually finished fourth, limiting the damage to his championship lead, which now stands at 22 points over Norris, with Verstappen another 41 points adrift.
The result also sealed McLaren’s dominance in the championship fight, as the British outfit secured the Constructors’ Championship with six races still remaining, reported AP. Starting from pole, Russell controlled the race from lights to flag, delivering a clean and composed drive through the humid Singapore night. Behind him, Verstappen endured a tense final stint as Norris piled on pressure in the closing laps. The Red Bull driver, nursing car issues, managed to hold firm for second place, narrowly keeping the McLaren behind. Norris’ third-place finish was still crucial for McLaren, ensuring the team wrapped up their second consecutive constructors’ crown. Sparks flew as Norris muscled his way ahead, prompting frustration over team radio from Piastri. For Piastri, it marked the first time since March’s Australian Grand Prix that he’s missed the podium in two straight races: a reminder that the title fight is tightening up heading into the final stretch of the season.
