A retired fire force officer died in the accident
The accident occurred around 6.45pm on Wednesday near Aban Junction in the heart of Pathanamthitta town. Police said a Wagon R allegedly driven by Pathanamthitta native Jinu Babu (48), who was under the influence of alcohol, lost control and ploughed into pedestrians. Retired fire force officer Aboobacker (72), of Pathanamthitta died in the accident, police said. Vishwajith (24), of Omalloor, who was travelling in the car with Jinu Babu, was also arrested.
Kottayam: Two persons have been arrested by Pathanamthitta police in connection with a drunk-driving accident that killed one pedestrian and injured nine migrant workers on Thiruvonam day. The car also hit two other vehicles before coming to a halt. Both sustained injuries in the accident and were initially admitted to General Hospital, Pathanamthitta, before being taken into police custody. Police registered a case against the accused under charges including drunk driving and culpable homicide, invoking non-bailable sections.
The accused will be produced before the court along with a remand application.
