A private tutor faces arrest for allegedly assaulting a 17-year-old student (Representative image)
MUMBAI: A 33-year-old private tutor has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting and molesting a 17-year-old Mumbai student who was preparing for the NEET medical entrance examination, police said on Thursday.
The alleged harassment began in June when the tutor approached the girl while she was studying alone in a classroom at her coaching centre, according to an official from Shahu Nagar police station. The alleged abuse continued, with the tutor making another physical attempt on the student this month while she was attending coaching classes, police said. Her family then approached Shahu Nagar police station, the official said. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) dealing with molestation and sexual assault, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said.
Based on the girl’s statement, police registered a case against the tutor and arrested him.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
