Kochi: The Malankara Syrian Christian Association has elected four new metropolitans (bishops) for the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC).
The names were announced by Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, who is also the president of the association, after the voting held at St Gregorios Nagar at Vettickal Dayara in Mulamthuruthy. Fr Eldhose A A, Fr Samji T George, Fr Shibu Venad Mathai and Fr Thomas Paul Ramban are the newly elected bishops.

Six candidates nominated by the church’s managing committee had contested the election. Online voting facilities were arranged for delegates from overseas, while other members cast their votes through ballots. Holy episcopal synod will decide the date and arrangements for the consecration of the designated metropolitans. Ahead of the association meeting, Catholicos celebrated holy qurbana at Mar Thoman Church in Mulamthuruthy. Download the TOI App.
