Rs 50,000 reward-carrying gangster arrested
Kanpur: A gangster carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head was arrested by Kanpur field unit of Special Task Force (STF) from Gaushala Chauraha in Kidwai Nagar. A case was also registered against Rohit by Auraiya police in connection with alleged irregularities in UP Police recruitment exam, 2025. Rohit was involved in two theft incidents in Dibiyapur in 2021, according to STF officials. His name surfaced again in 2024 in connection with the theft of Rs 7 lakh from the house of Saurabh Kumar, a resident of Vikas Kunj. In March 2026, Dibiyapur police initiated action under the Gangsters Act against Rohit, his brother Badal and associate Rohit Gihar alias Bundela.
Since then, Rohit had been absconding, said STF in-charge Rahul Parmar. The accused identified as Rohit Gihar of Dibiyapur in Auraiya was going to Gaushala Chauraha to meet someone when the team laid a cordon and arrested him The accused was subsequently handed over to Dibiyapur police, which had been searching for him in a case lodged under Gangsters Act. Around six cases, including those related to theft, are registered against him. Police arrested him in connection with the cases and recovered stolen goods from his possession, following which he was sent to jail. Police alleged that Rohit carried out the theft along with his associates.
