Ahmedabad: AMC has mandated prior approval from office bearers, including the mayor and standing committee chairman, for all projects and events that will be planned under the Ahmedabad Shopping Festival, to avoid controversies seen in previous editions.

Standing committee chairman Kamlesh Patel said the directive was issued after controversies surfaced during last year’s festival, including issues related to pending payments to the lighting contractor. He said the approval mechanism is intended to ensure better coordination and prevent disputes related to pending payments and other issues that they civic body dealt with last year. Patel said open swing doors at BRTS stations pose a risk to commuters and pedestrians.
The civic body has also issued instructions to improve safety at BRTS bus stops. A system has been put in place to ensure that the doors open only when a bus arrives and remain closed at other times. Officials have also been instructed to carry out regular maintenance to keep the mechanism functional. Download the TOI App.
