Nagpur: On Thursday, Narendra (Balya) Borkar, a leader of the ruling party in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), addressed concerns regarding reported divisions among committee chairpersons and members. He urged them to foster better coordination in their operations to ensure effective governance.
Mayor Addresses Committee Functioning and Fund Distribution
On Thursday, a meeting was held to review the functioning of various committees, attended by Mayor Neeta Thakre and Standing Committee chairperson Shivani Dani, along with members from committees focused on weaker sections, taxation, construction, health, law, slum clearance, housing, sports, women and child welfare, and water supply.
Mayor Thakre stated that there is no resentment among the committees, attributing challenges to a lack of communication. She refuted claims that the standing committee was withholding funds from corporators, clarifying, “Funds are being distributed to all corporators in phases,” and confirmed that this method also applies to the Weaker Sections Committee.
The meeting also covered plans for developing playgrounds and gardens. Borkar indicated that officials from the sports and garden departments are collaborating with all corporators to create a plan for 140 playgrounds and an equal number of gardens, tailored to the specific needs of each location and the popularity of various sports in the respective Assembly constituencies.
Notably, chairpersons from the transport, education, and fire committees were absent from the meeting. Borkar announced that meetings for these committees are scheduled for September 1, explaining that the Fire Committee chairperson is currently out of the city.
