Pune/Nashik/Kolhapur: Sixty-one of the 114 people from Maharashtra identified in the flood-hit Nepal-Tibet border region remain unreachable due to a near-total communication blackout, a senior state disaster management official told TOI on Thursday. The minister also revealed that he had personally spoken to three pilgrims from his neighbourhood who were part of a larger group travelling in the region. He said officials had been able to reach out to three people from Jalgaon, who had also been to Mansarovar. Amid mounting concern, fears over the safety of a group of 10 women from Mahabaleshwar eased after it emerged that they were nowhere near the flood-hit zone when the disaster struck.
The group, comprising friends and neighbours on a Nepal tour organised by a private operator, had reached Pokhara several days before the flash floods.
