A 28-year-old man from Lucknow was apprehended on Wednesday night during a vehicle-checking operation in Basti. He allegedly posed as a government officer, claiming to be an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Lucknow Secretariat. Police confirmed the arrest, emphasizing the importance of vigilance against impersonation in government roles.
A joint team of Kotwali and traffic police apprehended him during a checking drive in the Badeban outpost area, according to police. Police said the vehicle he was travelling in displayed the words ‘Uttar Pradesh Government’ along with a govt-style emblem and had a red-and-blue beacon installed on its roof. During questioning, Khan produced a visiting card carrying the OSD designation in an attempt to establish his identity, police said.
A case has been registered against Mohsin at Kotwali police station and further legal proceedings are underway.
Police said he allegedly attempted to avail VIP privileges at toll plazas by claiming to be a govt official and sought exemption from toll payments. Investigators suspect that Khan travelled across different districts and states while posing as a govt officer.
Police Detain Driver in Ongoing Investigation
Rajesh Yadav, the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident, has been detained for questioning by police. Following verification, he was released but has been issued a notice instructing him to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
