An officer said the man came in touch with cybercrooks through an advertisement on social media in June. “In the last two months, the man transferred Rs27.66 lakh to different bank accounts provided by the crooks,” the officer said. The officer said the man continued investing after being shown that he was making good profits. The man realised that he was being duped and approached the police,” the officer said.

He was added to a group of investors, where he guided on investing in the stock market. The crooks then assured him of good returns on his investments through their firm. They also provided him with a link to a website where he could transfer money and monitor his profits. However, when he tried to withdraw his money, he found that the ‘withdraw’ option had been removed from the website.
