Nagpur: Constable Ajay Salame, who served for years as a personal security officer and bodyguard to a top politician of the region, is on the run after two FIRs were registered against him.
Because of the constable’s long association with a prominent political figure and his subsequent suspension, the case has drawn attention. Senior police officials confirmed that local crime branch teams have been pressed into service to trace and arrest the absconding constable.
Sources said Salame is trying to obtain anticipatory bail. Police are making efforts to take him into custody before he can secure the bail order. Teams are checking his possible hideouts and known contacts in and around Nagpur and Ramtek. Police have appealed to the public to share any information that could help locate him.
His wife had earlier submitted a written complaint to the superintendent of police, alleging repeated domestic discord caused by his extramarital relationships with several women. A female friend lodged a rape case against him at Ramtek police station on Wednesday.
The officials said the investigation into the rape allegation and the wife’s complaint of prolonged domestic issues is being conducted simultaneously. Salame was suspended from duty after the complaints surfaced.
