New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Saturday reviewed its waste management strategy with World Bank experts while mayor Pravesh Wahi inspected the Bhalswa landfill and directed officials to accelerate bio-mining operations.
MCD commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar chaired a meeting with World Bank experts, where waste management models followed in Tokyo, New York and Barcelona were discussed. The World Bank team presented Tokyo’s technology-driven model, New York’s private-sector-led waste transportation and processing system, and Barcelona’s decentralised approach focused on waste segregation and behavioural change. The experts also discussed strategic options for Delhi aimed at improving MCD’s operational efficiency, financial sustainability and reducing emissions associated with waste management. MCD officials presented the corporation’s existing waste collection and transportation system and its ongoing and upcoming waste processing facilities.
