Nagpur: In response to a bomb threat email, several prominent schools in Nagpur have opted to keep students off campus and will conduct online classes on Monday. The email specifically mentioned August 31 as the potential date for a blast, prompting immediate safety concerns among school administrators and parents alike.
The threat traces back to Aug 18, when an email from the ID [email protected] set off a citywide security scare, naming over a dozen schools, the high court, mayor’s office and Nagpur Municipal Corporation as targets. The email threatened a blast at schools at 1.11pm, followed by the high court at 2.11pm and the civic body at 3.11pm, and warned of another explosion on Aug 31. More than 600 police personnel, along with bomb disposal and dog squads, searched all locations for four hours and found no explosives.
A few schools have already informed parents of the closure, while others are expected to communicate their decision by Sunday, sources said. Schools are taking no chances even though police had called the original threat a hoax. Police brass called the threat a hoax but continued treating it with seriousness, directing schools and offices to stay on high alert. A cyber cell case was registered, with DCP crime Deepak Aggarwal saying police were coordinating with Gmail to trace the sender.
