Patients coming to the hospital are often turned away to the urban primary health care centre (UPHC) in the area due to unannounced power outages. Because of power cuts, “Many people have reported discomfort and difficulty.
Chandra, a doctor at the hospital, said when power outages happen, they use phone flashlights for lighting. Sometimes it is for a few minutes, other times it is for several hours,” the doctor said, adding that the outages mean that on many days, patients are turned away without any care. “We ask them to come another day or to visit a different hospital,” he said. Patients said they visit GH mostly for consultations rather than for surgeries or treatments. The hospital desperately needs a generator that can support the entire facility for at least a day,” S Murugan, a resident, said. A senior Tangedco official said they will monitor unexpected power outages in the area and reduce the impact on the hospital. “We may provide a dedicated generator to GH.”
