Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Institute of Prisons and Correctional Administration (GIPCA) campus in Ahmedabad is set to get modern sports grounds, with the state police department planning the facilities keeping in mind the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, and the Olympics for which India has made a formal bid to host. The jail department also emerged as the overall champion in the DGP Cup 2026-27 Gujarat Police Wrestling Cluster Competition, held at the Nadiad Sports Complex, the statement said. As many as 22 teams from across Gujarat participated in the competition. Meanwhile, the selection process for the upcoming Gujarat Police DGP Cup Kabaddi (men) 2026-27 has been completed, with promising players shortlisted from various jails and GIPCA, the statement added.
He said the GIPCA campus was undergoing an advanced revamp under Phase I by Police Housing Corporation. Quoting DGP crime K L N Rao, an official statement on Sunday said that sports play an important role not only in improving physical fitness but also in developing discipline and team spirit.
