CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister Joseph Vijay on Monday announced a further increase in the milk procurement price to Rs 44 per litre, taking the cumulative increase across the state to Rs 6. In addition, another electricity corridor project worth Rs 1550 crore will be taken up, CM Vijay said. Earlier in August, the Tamil Nadu government announced a series of major measures under Rule 110 covering milk procurement prices, medical education, healthcare infrastructure and insurance coverage. The government had announced an increase in the milk procurement price from Rs 38 to Rs 41 per litre. In the healthcare and medical education sector, the government announced Rs 351 crore to increase student admission capacity in government medical colleges.

CM Vijay also announced that a semiconductor park will be established at Maduramangalam in Kanchipuram district. Along with the increase in procurement price, the government had earlier announced that the incentive would be increased from Rs3 to Rs5 per litre.

The announcement stated that the increase would result in an additional expenditure of Rs 30 crore per month and Rs360 crore per year for the government.
