Kochi : The high court has directed the additional chief secretary of the home department and the vigilance director to produce within 10 days, in a sealed cover, the documents based on which they decided that no inquiry was needed into the allegation that DGP S Sreejith had attended the inauguration of a private enterprise abroad. Accordingly, the court directed that the documents be produced in a sealed cover and adjourned the matter to Sept 7.
Sreejith, while serving as the transport commissioner, had attended the inauguration of a private enterprise abroad while wearing his police uniform, according to the petitioner. A bench of Justice A Badharudeen issued the order on a petition filed by Dipin Edavana, an assistant motor vehicle inspector from Kannur, seeking a vigilance inquiry into the allegation. Subsequently, the petitioner approached the court challenging the clean chit given by the vigilance department to Sreejith. Meanwhile, the petitioner alleged that the clean chit had been given to Sreejith without a proper inquiry. He further sought a directive to the vigilance department to produce, in a sealed cover, the documents on which it had based its decision not to conduct an inquiry into the matter, for the perusal of the court.
Previously, following a court directive, the additional chief secretary had considered the petitioner’s complaint, along with the documents he had submitted, and decided that no vigilance inquiry was warranted into the complaint for the time being. During the hearing on Monday, the govt pleader sought additional time to file an objection to the petition.
