D indigul: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is likely to complete the detailed feasibility report (DFR) for the proposed Kodaikanal ropeway project by September end, CMRL officials told TOI. The 10km transit system would take the scenic forest route to connect Kodaikanal in Dindigul district with Kumbakarai Falls in Theni district, said a CMRL official. CMRL has been tasked with preparing a DFR for the proposed ropeway system, meant to boost tourism and improve public transport connectivity in Kodaikanal. The study has been entrusted to WAPCOS Ltd through an open tender process at a cost of Rs79 lakh. As part of the project, the consultant has completed both primary and secondary data collection and conducted a traffic survey along the proposed route. In July, CMRL director (projects) T Archunan and assistant manager S Raja Subramaniam visited the Kumbakkarai Falls area to assess and identify suitable locations for the proposed project. The ropeway was designed to benefit both tourists and the local people. He stated that the plan included covering major tourist places in Kodaikanal like Green Valley View, Bryant Park and others. The proposed ropeway would be more advanced than the one in Palani. The seating capacity and other technical specifications of the ropeway would be finalised at a later stage, he added.
