When Xbox last confirmed the PS5 release
In January, Forza Horizon 6 was announced for PlayStation 5 with a planned release in 2026. Instead, they point towards a possible change in timing, with 2027 now being discussed as a potential release window. Microsoft announced a PS5 version alongside the Xbox and PC editions, and the game remains scheduled for a simultaneous release on February 23. For now, Microsoft has not formally announced that the PS5 version has been delayed to 2027. What has changed is the expectation around its 2026 release. After months without a fresh official update, reports from Tom Warren and IGN suggest that players waiting for Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 may have to wait longer than originally announced.
Because the game had already been announced for the console, meaning Microsoft did not need to establish whether a port was being considered, that silence is notable. Microsoft has not officially announced a delay, so the PS5 release status remains unclear. The last official update from the Forza Horizon channels came then, when Microsoft confirmed that the open-world driving game would still be coming to Sony’s platform this year.
The latest indication came from The Verge’s Tom Warren, who said on X that he is “not expecting to see Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 in 2026,” while responding to a question about whether the game had quietly been delayed to 2027. IGN later reported that it “understands this to be accurate”. The recent reports do not establish that the PS5 version has been cancelled. The upcoming Fable reboot is another example.
There has been little public discussion of the PS5 version since then.
Sharma has shifted positions on which franchises will remain available on competing consoles and which will remain exclusive to Xbox. At the same time, the company has moved to reinforce its console-exclusive lineup after spending recent years bringing more of its games to PlayStation.
