Kochi : The enforcement wing of the motor vehicles department (MVD) on Monday registered 89 cases against vehicles, including trucks carrying laterite stones, in a special drive conducted in Perumbavoor. Fines of Rs 2.68 lakh have been imposed on the vehicle owners.

The drive was against tipper trucks which operate during school hours. Tipper trucks, equipped with a tipping mechanism, are not allowed to run between 8am and 10am. Four squads of officials focused on Kuruppampady, Kottapady, Perumbavoor and Nedungapra areas. Seven tipper trucks were found operating during the restricted time, and cases were registered against them. Two vehicles were found carrying a load in excess of the permissible limit.
