Kochi : Central Police have approached the motor vehicle department (MVD) seeking to cancel the permit of the bus which was seized in connection with an assault case involving an autorickshaw driver.
The police also produced the bus documents, including its registration certificate, before the court on Monday after finding that fines were pending for around 200 traffic violations. The employees arrested in connection with the assault are Palluruthy residents M Z Nahas, 28, and his brother M Z Nasrudeen, 38, and Kumbalangi resident Bristo Mathews, 30. The incident occurred around 7:45pm on Friday near a fuel pump in front of Ernakulam North Town Hall. Police also registered 22 cases for drunk driving and seven cases under the Abkari Act.
Due to repeated violations and complaints involving private buses operating within Kochi city limits, police conducted 39 raids at various locations on Aug 23 and action was taken against six buses.
A week ago, on Aug 24, employees of a private bus named “Flora” were arrested for assaulting passengers. Similar drives will be conducted in the coming weeks as well, said police. The dispute began after a Kothuruthy resident who was driving the autorickshaw questioned the staff after the bus allegedly almost hit his vehicle. This led to the staff assaulting him.
Central Police wrote to Ernakulam RTO on Monday seeking the cancellation of the bus permit of ‘Sajimon’. They were arrested by Central police on Saturday and later released on bail.
