Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Maharashtra registration department on Monday suspended the in-charge sub-registrar and a junior clerk of the Soygaon sub-registrar office with immediate effect over alleged irregular document registrations, violations of fragmentation and registration laws, and conducting registrations on a holiday without permission.
The action was ordered by the Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps after an inspection reportedly found multiple violations in registrations carried out between July 27 and Aug 7. 252 documents were accepted for registration during the period, of which 250 were registered, according to the inspection report. Under the ‘One District One Registration’ scheme, 172 documents from talukas outside Soygaon were registered. One of the most serious findings was that registrations were carried out at the office on Sunday, Aug 9, allegedly without permission.

Reacting to the suspension, Bhumre said accountability should extend beyond the officers posted at the Soygaon office. “While it is necessary for the officer concerned to verify compliance of rules and laws while registering documents, the role of the higher officers must be examined if irregular documents are registered,” he said. Violation of Registration Provisions Leads to Revenue Loss
The recent report highlights violations in the registration process involving 173 documents. Specifically, it cites breaches of section 18C of the Registration Act, 1908, and rule 44(e) of the Maharashtra Registration Rules, 1961. These infractions have resulted in a measurable loss of government revenue in one registration case.
