In Lucknow, a sub-inspector from the Naka police station has been reassigned to police lines following the emergence of a video that appears to show him assaulting a man and damaging the man’s vehicle. Reports suggest that the officer was allegedly under the influence of alcohol during the incident. The police department is currently investigating the matter, and further actions may be taken based on the findings.
Dubagga Inspector Shrikant Rai said the two sides had initially reached a compromise. OFFICER ATTACHED TO POLICE LINES Western DCP Kamlesh Dixit said the police had taken cognisance of the viral video. He said sub-inspector Gopesh Sharma had been attached to the police lines (line hazir) and an inquiry had been handed over to ACP Chowk.
The officer, identified as Gopesh Sharma, allegedly got into an altercation with a man, abused him and damaged the windshield of his car. The incident was recorded on video by the man, and the footage later went viral on social media. He subsequently took the sub-inspector to Dubagga police station and lodged a complaint. A video purportedly showing the incident shows the officer arguing with Rahul and allegedly slapping him. However, after the video surfaced and attracted the attention of senior police officials, the matter was taken seriously.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday.
