WWE aired the August 31 episode of Monday Night RAW, which was taped last week. This was the final of the ongoing #1 contender’s tournament to determine Roman Reigns’ next challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship. After his win, Roman Reigns came down to the ring and had an intense confrontation with Penta, who he will face on the September 14 episode of Monday Night RAW in Mexico City.
The show featured a newly debuted team taking out the Bloodline. Furthermore, the night featured a title bout and other highly spectacular matches. It was finally capped off by a high-stakes match between two real-life brothers that determined the next challenger for Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship. The match saw Raquel Rodriguez defend her WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship against the former champion, Sol Ruca. The intense title bout saw Lyra Valkyria’s interference. This led Rodriguez to plant Ruca with the Tijuana Bomb and pick up the victory to retain her title. Both men produced a captivating bout. In the end, it was Dragon Lee who picked up the victory and, in the process, earned a future shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Originally, Dominik Mysterio and Je’Von Evans battled in a singles match. But it ended in a Disqualification when JD McDonagh interfered, and Joe Hendry came to Evans’ aid. The bout was turned into a tag team match and concluded with Mysterio and McDonagh emerging victorious. The main event of the night pitted real-life brothers, Penta and Rey Fenix, in a singles match for the first time in WWE. It was a classic display of lucha-libre action and ended with Penta emerging victorious.
