Cooking is an art, but cleaning the kitchen can leave anyone pissed off and disgusted with the grease, grime, and slimy kitchen towels that can make the idea of cleaning even more daunting! Well, there’s no denying that kitchen towels take the main brunt of every cooking spill, oil splatter, and counter wipe. However, over a period of time, the standard washing cycles often fail to lift the built-up grease, leaving towels feeling slick and heavy and smelling stale. Interestingly, we have curated some simple hacks that can help fix these greasy and slimy kitchen towels by using some common cooking ingredients that can be used to clean these kitchen linens.
When grease sets deep into cotton fibers, standard cold or warm laundry cycles simply glide over the oil without loosening it. High heat is essential to break down this set in residue. Filling a large pot with water and bringing it to a rolling boil creates the ideal starting point. Adding half a cup of baking soda and a tablespoon of liquid dish soap per gallon of water works wonders, as dish soap cuts directly through food grease while baking soda neutralizes stubborn odors. Submerging the greasy towels and letting them simmer on low heat for fifteen to twenty minutes melts away trapped oils.
Rubbing clear liquid dish soap directly onto dry, greasy spots and scrubbing the fabric together vigorously breaks up stubborn oils at the source. Letting the soap sit for thirty minutes gives it time to pull the fats out of the fibers before hot water washing. For especially tough patches, mixing washing soda with a little water to create a thick paste offers an even stronger option, using its high pH to lift stubborn residue.
Addressing severe grease patches before the towels ever hit the laundry hamper prevents stains from setting permanently.
