Murder accused escapes police custody in Madurai
Madurai : An accused in the murder of a Class X boy in Sivaganga on June 5 escaped from police custody near Yanaikkal junction in Madurai on Tuesday evening. The accused, Aravind , 24, from Ilanthaimangalam in Sivaganga district, was returning to Madurai Central Prison with two escort police personnel after appearing before the Sivaganga court for a hearing when he escaped. Aravind was arrested by Sivaganga district police along with a 17-year-old boy in connection with the sexual assault and murder of a Class X boy near the Keel Kaavanoor irrigation tank on June 5.
Vilakkuthoon police registered a case and launched a search to trace him.
Police sources said the two-wheeler carrying Aravind and the escort personnel stopped near Yanaikkal junction around 5pm. Police said Aravind was in a relationship with the deceased boy and that he and the minor allegedly conspired to murder him after he disclosed their homosexual relationship to others. Investigators said Aravind and the victim had consumed liquor before the murder.
Aravind allegedly pushed the two escort officers, jumped off the vehicle and fled. The victim was found dead with his throat slit. The case came to light after a boy who witnessed the incident approached the police and shared details of the crime.
