Apart from focusing on the construction of the pumping station and installation of pumps, the firm engaged in the project has been asked to expedite the laying of pipes that will connect several waterlogging-prone areas in north-central Kolkata to the pumping station, according to a KMC drainage department official. Amitava Bose, a retired bank employee and a resident of Amherst Street, felt the pumping station was the need of the hour as the entire Amherst Street and its adjacent roads go under water after every downpour.
