New Delhi: Delhi Police have apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, in central Delhi for allegedly overstaying in India in violation of the 15-day-per-visit condition of their visas.
The two were traced during a special verification drive being conducted under Operation VISTA 1.0, according to police. They have been identified as Jomir Hossen (25) and Maksuda Akter (39). Police said both had entered India on double-entry visas that permitted them to stay for a maximum of 15 days per visit. DCP (central) Rohit Rajbir Singh said the verification team was checking hotels and guest houses in the area when they reached a hotel on Arakashan Road in Nabi Karim and found Hossen, who had entered India on June 9. The team traced Akter to another hotel in Chandi Wali Gali, Main Bazar in Paharganj, where she had been staying since June 27.

Police said they checked and verified their passports, visas, and other travel documents before apprehending them. During verification, however, they were found to have overstayed, thereby violating their visa conditions. The cases were subsequently referred to Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for prescribed proceedings over the visa violations. FRRO later issued restriction orders directing that both be placed at a detention centre at Sewa Dham, Shahzada Bagh, Sarai Rohilla. Download the TOI App.
