Kolhapur: A leopard’s attack on livestock in Kolhapur left a farmer critically injured and another hurt, while a hyena attack claimed the life of a retired police personnel in neighbouring Sangli, triggering fresh concern over escalating human-wildlife conflict in the region.
The leopard attack occurred on Monday evening in Karivade village of Bhudargad taluka, where Pandurang Desai (60) was severely mauled while trying to save a buffalo from the predator. Another elderly farmer, Yashwant Desai (75), suffered minor injuries while attempting to rescue him. Kondiba Pandurang Dudhal-Patil (75), a retired policeman, died after being attacked while grazing goats along the Daflapur-Ankale road in Jat taluka on Sunday evening.
