In Nagpur, police have applied the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the Sheikh Sharif–Baba Tiger gang. The gang is accused of planning to eliminate their rival, Mohd Akram, also known as Bhuru, in a staged accident on Wardha Road. This incident reportedly took place on August 11.

The plot was to kill Bhuru by making it look like a road mishap, according to police. He was hit hard by a vehicle allegedly driven by Baba Tiger, with close aide JD beside him, and was flung several metres before landing in hospital with serious injuries. He remains on ventilator. Sonegaon police first registered an accident case, but later upgraded it to attempt to murder against Baba Tiger, Sharif, JD and others after evidence of a supari plot emerged. The crime branch has arrested five persons, including Sitabuldi ganja kingpin Sharif and his aides. Baba Tiger and JD are still absconding. Download the TOI App.
In the past, Baba Tiger was booked under MCOCA for murder, while both Guru and Sharif have faced the organised crime law earlier.
