Concerns Over Electoral Roll Accessibility for Seniors
Voters in the Shivajinagar constituency are raising concerns over changes to part numbers in the draft electoral roll published on Monday. VS Kulkarni reported difficulty locating his name, stating, “I looked for my name with the earlier part number. After repeated attempts, I found it in the list with a changed part number. Why were the part numbers changed?”
Kulkarni emphasized that senior citizens may struggle with online name searches due to a lack of familiarity with technology. He urged the district administration to provide hard copies of the draft rolls at every polling station to assist those who need to verify their names.
Rama Rao, another senior citizen, expressed frustration with the online search process, describing it as time-consuming and complicated due to the requirement of entering captchas and other details.
Ajay Darwatkar from Nagar Road echoed these sentiments, questioning the necessity of captchas for every access attempt. He noted that the system is not user-friendly for seniors or those using mobile devices, as voters must navigate multiple windows, including state, EPIC number, and language selections, to complete their searches.
Vijay Mehta, a voter from Shivajinagar, highlighted inaccuracies in the draft list, stating that his age was recorded incorrectly, necessitating a correction through Form 8. Additionally, a voter from Kondhwa pointed out vague address listings in the draft roll, such as “D302,” which lack specific society or area designations.
