Man gets 10 yrs in jail for raping BCom student
Agra : A court here has sentenced a 35-year-old man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping a final-year BCom student after drugging her and later sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions by threatening to make her private photographs and videos public. The fast-track court for crimes against women, presided over by judge Neeraj Srivastava, convicted the man under Sections 376 (rape) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison or intoxicating substance) of IPC in a case registered in 2019. She alleged in the FIR that on Oct 12, 2018, he invited her to his house on the pretext of a birthday celebration. The FIR was registered on Dec 1, 2019, following her complaint. The court sentenced him to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment under IPC Section 376 and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000.
Because the woman wanted to marry him and was putting pressure on him, during the trial, the man denied the allegations and claimed he had been falsely implicated. After she consumed a cold drink offered by him, she lost consciousness. As per the prosecution, the survivor had become acquainted with the man through social media. On regaining her senses, she realised that she had been sexually assaulted. The survivor stated that the accused threatened to circulate her photographs and videos and subsequently called her to a hotel on multiple occasions, where he sexually assaulted her. The court, after examining the survivor’s testimony and other oral and documentary evidence, held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. It concluded that the accused had administered an intoxicating substance to facilitate the rape and subsequently sexually assaulted the survivor without her consent. Download the TOI App.
The order was passed on Tuesday and a copy of the verdict was made available on Wednesday.
