Doctors at the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) in Lucknow have successfully treated a young patient who experienced recurrent shoulder dislocations. Over the past four years, the patient’s shoulder joint slipped out of position approximately 35 to 40 times. This condition, known as shoulder instability, can significantly impact daily activities and quality of life. The medical team implemented a tailored treatment plan to address the patient’s specific needs, ultimately restoring joint stability and function.

Doctors said the patient is recovering well and has been advised physiotherapy and a phased rehabilitation programme. Head of department Prof Dr Deepak Kumar said bone block cerclage is an effective treatment option for selected patients with recurrent shoulder dislocation associated with bone loss. The patient had been experiencing chronic shoulder instability that affected daily activities and physical movement. A team from the orthopaedics department, led by Prof Dr Pankaj Agrawal, performed an arthroscopic bone block cerclage procedure to restore joint stability. shoulder dislocation The minimally invasive procedure involved placing a bone block at the affected site and securing it using a cerclage fixation technique to address bone loss and reduce the risk of further dislocations. He added that advanced arthroscopic and sports injury surgery facilities at RMLIMS have enabled the treatment of complex orthopaedic cases.
