His sister Uzma Khan filed a fresh contempt petition in the Supreme Court on Wednesday, alleging that authorities have failed to comply with an August 18 order concerning Khan’s access to his family. Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan is being held in what has been described as harsh conditions at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, with reports alleging prolonged isolation, limited access to reading material and restrictions on contact with his family.
Contempt Petition Sparks Legal Dispute Over Medical Evaluation
The ongoing legal conflict stems from a contempt petition regarding the alleged failure to comply with a Supreme Court order. This order mandated the transfer of Khan to Shifa International Hospital for a medical evaluation. Instead, on August 21, Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and subsequently returned to Adiala Jail after medical staff declared him ‘medically fit.’ Authorities have justified this decision by citing security concerns.
