The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kolkata: In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, Star Health, one of India’s oldest standalone health insurance companies, has successfully settled 33,000 claims totaling more than Rs 140 crore. This significant achievement underscores the company’s commitment to its policyholders and its operational efficiency in handling claims promptly.

The company has settled more than 6 lakh claims worth over Rs 3,200 crore in Bengal since inception, according to Atin Kumar Roy, business head (West Bengal). He said out of 8.5 lakh agents of the company around 64,000 are in Bengal and 8,000 agents would be added this year. The claim ratio in Bengal at 57% is lower than the claim ratio of 67% nationally for the company, according to Roy. A predominantly retail health company, Star Health has 29% market share in retail health policies in the country while in the state the share was 55%. Roy pointed out that Bengal continues to be an important market for Star Health, supported by a strong on-ground presence comprising over 60 branches and more than 650 network hospitals across the state. In FY26 alone, the company settled over 1.2 lakh claims worth more than Rs 600 crore.
