Steinem died peacefully at the age of 92 at her New York home on September 2, 2026. Gloria Steinem’s longtime New York home was never simply a place to return to after a day of activism. For more than five decades, the Upper East Side apartment became a meeting place where ideas were exchanged, friendships formed and movements took shape.

Steinem moved into the apartment in 1968, and the rooms gradually became part home, part workplace and part gathering place.
Meetings connected to the early work around Ms. magazine and the National Women’s Political Caucus took place there, according to Gloria’s Foundation.
