Bengaluru: A routine morning turned into 40 seconds of horror when a knife-wielding miscreant allegedly entered a house in north-eastern Bengaluru, injured two women and robbed them of their gold mangalya chains worth around Rs 8 lakh. The incident reportedly took place on the first floor of a residential complex in Nagaragiri Township, Kadusonnappanahalli, around 10.30am Wednesday when homemaker Anuja (25) and her mother-in-law Kalavathi (48) were alone. Her husband and her father-in-law had left home for their personal work, while her children had gone to school, according to a complaint filed by Anuja. Anuja’s husband Bharath , a businessman, told TOI , “The miscreant held the knife to my mother’s throat and snatched her mangalya chain before turning the knife on Anuja. “My mother also sustained bruises in her neck as the miscreant pierced his nails,” Bharath said. The robber ran out and locked the door, leaving the two women helpless inside the house, he said, adding that hearing their screams, their neighbours opened the door. Bagalur police, who registered a case, said CCTV footage from the surrounding buildings is being verified to find clues.
The robber locked the women inside the house before fleeing. She was in the kitchen while Kalavathi was sitting on the sofa in the hall when the latter started screaming. Rushing into the hall, Anuja found an unidentified man wearing a monkey cap threatening Kalavathi with a knife. When Anuja tried to stop him, she sustained an injury in her hand. The suspect appeared to be a well-built man aged 25-30 years and was wearing brown clothes, according to Anuja. The miscreant was so quick that he robbed both women within 40-45 seconds, she added. She stated that her gold chain weighed around 30 grams and Kalavathi’s around 40 grams, together worth over Rs 8 lakh.
He did not utter a single word, she said. Bharath said, “Ours is the fourth house on the first floor. The first three houses had their doors locked from inside. Since our house was not locked, he entered it. He came in by climbing the adjacent buildings and escaped by the same route. He did not enter the building through the gate.”
