Bengaluru : A 73-year-old retired person was left stunned after Rs 1 lakh in cash and a few important documents were stolen from the storage box of his scooter while he stopped briefly to relieve himself by the roadside in east Bengaluru. A resident of Ramamurthynagar, the incident occurred on Sept 1 around 1.40pm, according to the complaint filed by Neelakantan. He had withdrawn Rs 50,000 from the SBI branch in Indiranagar, and another Rs 50,000 from a Canara Bank branch, bringing the total cash to Rs 1 lakh. When he returned to his scooter a few minutes later, he found the storage box open and the Rs 1 lakh cash missing.
He also told police that three bank passbooks, two debit cards and his wife’s defence canteen card had been stolen along with the cash. He placed the money in a cover inside the storage box of his scooter before heading home. However, while riding, he stopped near Railway Parallel Road in Sadanandanagar to relieve himself.
Byappanahalli police have registered a case under Section 303 (theft). A senior officer said, “We suspect the miscreants noticed the complainant withdrawing money from the bank and keeping it in the storage box. CCTV camera footage is being verified to ascertain clues. Download the TOI App.
