Kolhapur: Koyna dam in Satara district reached 100% of its 105.25 TMC storage capacity at 3pm on Thursday, prompting the dam administration to schedule a discharge of 3,182 cusecs by lifting two radial gates by one foot at 9pm.
One unit of the Koyna hydroelectric power station is also operational, releasing 1,050 cusecs, taking the total discharge into the Koyna river to 4,232 cusecs. At 5pm, the dam’s water level stood at 659.43 metres, with gross storage of 105.25 TMC and live storage of 100.13 TMC, both at 100%. The dam was receiving an inflow of 7,737 cusecs. The Koyna catchment has received 4,191mm rainfall since June 1, while Navaja and Mahabaleshwar recorded 5,385mm and 5,049mm respectively. In Kolhapur district, nine major dams — Tulshi, Warna, Dudhganga, Kadwi, Chitri, Jangamhatti, Sarfnala, Ambeohol and Kode — are 100% full. Kumbhi and Patgaon are at 99%, while Radhanagari, Kasari, Jambre and Ghataprabha are at 97%. The Panchaganga river receded to 15.04 feet at Rajaram barrage by 6pm, with three barrages still submerged. Kolhapur received 12.8mm average rainfall in the 24 hours till 8.30am Thursday, with drizzling reported in the morning and evening.
