Nine class VIII students have been arrested for allegedly sexually torturing their classmate inside a library at Government Higher Secondary School at Tharuvaikulam in Thoothukudi.
Police said though the boys, aged 13, were friends, the victim was often bullied by the others. Around 3.30pm on Aug 18, they were in the school library when the nine boys removed the victim’s trousers, hurt him, and applied chilli powder to his private parts. On a complaint lodged by the his parents on Aug 31 at Vilathikulam All Women Police station, a case was registered under section 324 (mischief causing property damage), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of BNS and relevant sections of Pocso Act . Police commenced investigation, and arrested five of the students on Sept 1, and the others subsequently.

All nine were produced before the juvenile justice board, and lodged in a borstal home in Tirunelveli.
