Warangal : Senior politician and former Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) mayor Gundu Sudha Rani has been appointed chairperson of the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) on Thursday.

Sudha Rani’s appointment has triggered discussion among Congress leaders and workers in Warangal, with some viewing it in the context of recent changes, as minister Konda Surekha was expelled from the state cabinet.

Sudha Rani began her political career with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1998. She was appointed Warangal district TDP vice-president in 2000 and served as a member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board in 2002. In 2004, she was made the in charge of the Warangal East Assembly constituency and contested the election but was defeated. In 2005, she was elected as a corporator and subsequently became the TDP floor leader in the municipal corporation. She served as TDP state secretary from 2005 to 2007 and was later appointed state working secretary in 2009. In 2010, she was elected to the Rajya Sabha. In 2021, she contested the GWMC mayoral election on a BRS ticket and was elected mayor. Following the BRS’s defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections, Sudha Rani joined the Congress in 2024.
