HYDERABAD: Eight students were taken into custody after two groups of students clashed at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) in Kukatpally late Thursday night, leaving several students injured, police said. The two groups were from Manjeera and Gautami hostels, according to police. The clash reportedly began during Teej festival celebrations on the campus after a student was allegedly attacked by a group for making objectionable remarks about their female friend. Videos circulating on social media purportedly show groups of students fighting near the hostel gates, with some allegedly carrying sticks. The footage also shows students confronting each other as tensions escalated.

Students allegedly attacked each other with sticks during the clash. The injured students were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The initial scuffle broke out inside Manjeera hostel before the confrontation escalated and spilled out towards the university gate.

An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the clash.
