Heavy traffic near Dwarka Junction
Nashik : Following an inspection by senior officials of the Nashik Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority, the MSIDC has been directed to expedite work at Dwarka Junction and complete all remaining construction by Oct 15, when the junction is expected to open to traffic. Authorities have also decided to widen the service road towards Pune to a full width of 13.5 metres. However, despite directives to the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) to meet the Oct 15 deadline, senior officials noted that full completion may take another month or two.

DCP (HQs and Traffic) Chandrakant Gavli said that traffic movement connecting Nashik and Nashik Road will likely resume only after Dec, while the overall project will be complete my March. “The police are continuously following up with MSIDC officials to complete the work at the earliest,” he added. The push to decongest the junction has intensified with the reopening of the Mumbai–Dhule carriageway. Ever since the junction was closed in Feb this year for grade separator construction, commuters have faced severe traffic snarls along diversion routes. Meanwhile, commuters report frequent gridlocks at the Kathe Galli signal and along the Mumbai Naka stretch during peak hours. “It is extremely frustrating to get stuck in traffic. The entire traffic management system seems to have collapsed since the Dwarka Junction work began, and the monsoon has worsened the situation. Other commuters blamed the NMC for inadequate infrastructure along the diverted routes, pointing to the poor condition of the Kathe Galli–Mumbai Naka stretch. Download the TOI App.
