Hyderabad: After probing 10 Army personnel from the Madras Regiment, investigators have reportedly zeroed in on four as key suspects in the theft of 12 sophisticated weapons, including AK-203s, and ammunition, from the regiment’s armoury in the Bollarum military zone recently.
Even the probe into two four-wheelers found exiting the armoury gate during the intervening night of Aug 30 and Aug 31 has come to a naught, said investigating officers.
Different psychological methods are being used to question them,” said a source privy to the investigation, adding that the investigation is at an “advanced stage”. “They are not yielding. “Since these personnel were on duty at the armoury on the night of the incident, they are our prime suspects. The role of outsiders has almost been ruled out,” the source added. after securing mandatory court orders, the plan was later dropped considering the legal issues involved in conducting them While officials had initially discussed using narcoanalysis tests on the suspects. Officials reiterated that the lack of CCTVs in the part of the military area housing the armoury has become a major challenge for the probe, both for the police and the military.
