Regular commuters on Nagar Road said as groundwork gathers pace over the next few months, there is an urgent need for a detailed traffic management plan to avoid congestion and snarls at key junctions. Travellers pointed out that “wrong-way” driving is already rampant on the stretch from Yerwada to Wagholi, which frequently hampers traffic flow. Anup Sathe, a resident of the Vimannagar area, said the administration should announce traffic changes well in advance. The Metro should utilise the minimum possible space on the carriageways, and the work must be completed within the stipulated deadlines,” Sathe said.
Pune : The groundwork for the crucial Ramwadi to Wagholi Metro stretch has finally begun. Initial barricading is being set up ahead of the Ramwadi Metro station towards Wagholi on Nagar Road to facilitate geotechnical and soil surveys. The Metro work on this stretch is particularly significant as it includes the construction of a six-lane elevated road along with the Metro viaduct. The structure will be double-decker in nature. The Metro viaduct will be at the top level, while the six-lane elevated road will be constructed directly beneath it. This phase includes the construction of four key stations: Vimannagar, Somnathnagar, Kharadi Bypass, and Tuljabhavani Chowk. Maha Metro officials stated that geotechnical surveys and soil testing will commence in the next few days, followed by the start of actual construction. The Metro had initiated the bidding process four months ago to appoint an agency for the construction of the viaduct and the six-lane road. Currently, Metro trains operate up to the Ramwadi station; this new extension will begin just ahead of that station. Bottlenecks near major junctions and U-turns remain a concern. Commuters have urged authorities to account for these existing issues before barricading more road space for construction. “We do not want overnight closures or sudden changes in traffic movement that create confusion.
