International Agency to Oversee Kumbh Mela Infrastructure Quality
The Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority has engaged an international agency to perform independent quality inspections on key infrastructure projects for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh in 2027. This initiative aims to ensure that vital facilities, including roads, sewage treatment plants (STPs), and buildings, adhere to rigorous safety and quality standards. The move underscores a commitment to accountability and transparency in the preparation for this major religious event, highlighting the importance of maintaining public trust in the management of such large-scale projects.
Full‑scale deployment is expected within the next 15 days. As of now, the Kumbh Mela Authority has approved projects worth Rs 10,000 crore under numerous departments and civic bodies. Of this, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) alone is handling works worth Rs 4,000 crore. The tender process for 29 road projects of NMC, valued at Rs 1,200 crore, has already been completed. Furthermore, work orders for 19 of these projects have been issued, while the remaining 10 will be cleared within a week.

The global firm has already deployed part of its technical team in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, according to officials. Kumbh Mela Authority chief Shekhar Singh said the initiative is aimed at strengthening accountability. “These agencies will keep constant vigil over all Kumbh Mela projects to ensure strict adherence to quality norms,” Singh stated.
The agency will monitor, inspect and certify the quality of all the projects that are being implemented by various govt departments and local bodies. In addition to the international firm, the authority has also engaged road experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, to provide technical oversight. The appointed agency will operate an independent material testing laboratory and conduct systematic inspections, material quality assessments, technical audits and compliance checks. Its mandate includes overseeing civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, road development, sewerage, storm‑water drainage and other key works across Nashik city and Trimbakeshwar. Most tenders have been finalized and work orders were issued. Several projects are already underway. The global quality‑control agency will be responsible for ensuring that every piece of infrastructure created for the Kumbh Mela is durable, safe and compliant with approved technical standards, ultimately helping Nashik and Trimbakeshwar deliver a well‑planned and robust setup for the kumbh.
