On his arrest, Bhardwaj’s advocate Piyush Jain said, “In this matter, the police once again discreetly utilised video conferencing; the court has remanded him to judicial custody for one day. Bhardwaj was produced through video-conferencing before duty magistrate Anjali Singh, who remanded him to judicial custody. NEW DELHI: Swatantra Bhardwaj was sent to one-day judicial custody by a Delhi court on Sunday in connection with the alleged assault on the father of a teenage student activist during a protest at Jantar Mantar, with police having also added SC/ST Act and criminal intimidation provisions to the case. Tomorrow, Swatantra Bhardwaj will be produced before the designated SC/ST court… On Saturday, Bhardwaj was produced at the residence of Additional Sessions Judge Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler, who allowed Delhi Police to conduct one-day custodial interrogation of the accused, news agency PTI reported. Delhi Police had on Friday added provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and criminal intimidation to the FIR over the alleged assault on father of the teenage student activist, during the CJP-led protest at Jantar Mantar in June. He was detained in Bulandshahr on Friday, hours after the Cockroach Janta Party ( CJP ) staged a protest outside the Parliament Street police station demanding his arrest over the alleged assault. On Friday, police also registered a fresh FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on a complaint by the minor activist, who alleged online threats and harassment.
